Laser Vein Treatments

How it Works

The Cutera Laser delivers pulses of light energy which cause the blood within the vein to coagulate, eventually destroying the vessel which is later reabsorbed by your body. Blood flow will then be redirected to veins deeper below your skins surface, where it should be.

Treatment Preparation

Avoid sun tanning or self-tanners for 4 weeks prior to treatment. This includes spray tans, tanning lotions and tanning beds.

Some medications or supplements may increase the risk of bruising. Please consult with your physician for further information and specific instructions regarding your medications.

Avoid treatments that may irritate the skin for 1 to 2 weeks prior to treatment (waxing, depilatories, etc.).

Notify clinic with any changes to your health or medication since your last appointment. 

History of herpes or cold sores may require an anti-viral prescription prior to treatment.

Most patients opt to use a topical anesthetic prior to the treatment. During the treatment, a cooling gel is applied to the treatment area before the laser is glided over. Clients wear protective eyewear during the procedure to protect them from exposure to the laser.

Areas that can be Treated

The Cutera Laser can remove unsightly veins from all parts of the body.

Small, facial veins (or “telangiectasia”) can be treated quickly without bruising or complication.

Spider veins and large blue veins can also be treated with excellent results.

Knotty varicose veins are not good candidates. A careful evaluation with your physician will help you determine which vessels can be treated and the best course of treatment.

What it Feels Like

Your physician will apply a cooling gel to the treatment area before using the laser. Although no local anesthesia or pain medication is typically required, many patients opt to use a topical anesthetic prior to treatment.

While most patients describe the treatments as relaxing, some may experience a stinging sensation as the pulses of energy are delivered through the hand-piece.

Protective eyewear must be worn at all times and your mouth must remain closed to avoid potential teeth and eye damage from exposure to the laser.

Expected Results

Most patients find that the majority of treated veins show significant improvement within 2 to 6 weeks of treatment. However, your final results may not be apparent for several months.

Regular treatments will help to maintain results.

Over time, it is possible for new veins to appear, but these too can be removed with the Cutera Laser.

Number of Treatments

For optimal results, a course of 1 to 3 treatments (spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart) is typically recommended. However, the number of treatments necessary depends on the number, color and size of the vessels being treated.
