The Details
How it Works
Laser treatment for toe nail fungus offers a temporary solution for clearer nails in patients with onychomycosis, more commonly known as nail fungus. Dermatophytes are the fungi most commonly responsible for causing this condition.
The laser is directed so that the heat will penetrate through the toenail to the nail bed where the fungus is present. When the laser is targeted to the area of infection, the heat that is produced inhibits the growth of the fungus and destroys it.
Treatment Preparation
It is important to remove all nail polish and decorations the day before your procedure.
Areas that can be Treated
These laser procedures are designed specifically to treat toe nails and the symptoms that result from the presence of toe nail fungus.
What it Feels Like
The procedure involves passing the laser beam over the infected nails and the surrounding skin. Your physician will repeat this several times until enough energy has reached the nail bed. Your nail bed will feel warm during the procedure.
Some clients may experience mild to moderate discomfort during the procedure, while others feel little to no pain during it and describe it as comfortable. This varies from client to client and depends on the severity of the condition being treated.
Expected Results
Most clients show improvement or clearing of the diseased nail after just 1 session.
The total number of sessions needed for optimal results will be determined by your physician depending on how severely each nail is infected.
Number of Treatments
Most clients require a minimum of 2 treatments for best results. Patients will see noticeable improvement after just 1 session, but the number of sessions recommended will vary depending on how severely each nail is infected.
