Overview

Sculptra Aesthetic is an injectable filler that gradually rebuilds and replenishes your skin’s collagen. Treatments restore volume in sunken cheeks and nasolabial folds as well as reducing cheek wrinkles and facial sagging. It is distributed over the areas of your face needing volume to achieve a more youthful look and complexion. Sculptra is a truly a unique filler in that it stimulates collagen growth rather than simply filling the treated area.

    The Details

    How it Works

    Sculptra Aesthetic works by simulating your own collagen to grow. Sculptra contains microscopic particles of poly-L-latic acid (PLLA), a biodegradable and synthetic material, which is naturally broken down by the body. It is injected beneath the skin’s surface and as the microparticles are absorbed, they encourage the body to rebuild its own collagen which in turn restores skin structure and volume over time.

    Treatment Preparation 

    Avoid blood-thinning medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen and fish oil for 1 week prior to treatment.

    Topical anesthesia is used prior to the injections and in some instances a numbing agent may be used.

    Areas that can be Treated

    Collagen rebuild injections are used to treat the face (excluding the lips and around the eyes), hands, neck and décolletage.

    What it Feels Like

    The procedure involves the Sculptra being administered with a very fine needle into the area being treated. While the topical anesthetic and numbing agents should successfully eliminate any pain, minor discomfort may be experienced.

    Expected Results

    Clients should see an immediate and noticeable improvement in volume. Fine lines will appear smoother and wrinkles and folds much less visible.

    Results appear gradually over time, but are enduring lasting up to two years.

    Number of Treatments

    3 to 4 treatments over a 6-month time period are recommended initially for optimal results. Results can then be maintained with one treatment per year.

    After Care

    Post-Treatment

    • Swelling, itching, pain, redness, bleeding and/or bruising at the treatment area may occur, but typically resolve within one week.

    • Minimize excessive sun and UV exposure.

    • Avoid facial treatments such as laser and chemical peels.

    • Massage the treated area(s) gently for 5 to 10 minutes, 5 times a day for the first week to reduce swelling and help disperse the product evenly.

    • Apply a cool compress to the treated area(s) to reduce swelling.

    Follow Up

    Treatments are typically spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart from one another. To ensure that you are satisfied and that optimal results are achieved, we recommend you see your clinician for a follow-up appointment and assessment.

    • Hypersensitive to ingredients including poly-L-lactic acid
    • You have a history of, or susceptibility to, keloid formation or hypertonic scarring
    • You have an acute or chronic infection
    • Skin sores, pimples, cysts, rashes, or hives on the infected area

    Side Effects, Risks & Complications

    Swelling, itching, pain, redness, bleeding and/or bruising at the treatment area may occur, but typically resolve within one week.

    Occasionally causes small nodules similar to about half a pea and hard. We attempt to avoid these by using the recommended volume dilution, doing vigorous massaging after your procedure and instructing you to massage the skin for 5 days afterward.
